Summer in the Tampere region is packed with events, and July continues the festival season with a strong focus on music. The month begins, however, with a journey into the past at Iron Age Birckala, taking place on 4–5 July in the Reippi area of Pirkkala. During the same weekend, the Aitoon Kirkastusjuhlat music festival also gets underway in Pälkäne.
The musical celebrations continue with the KesäVirratSoi festival in Virrat, followed by another festival-packed weekend featuring early music at Sastamala Gregoriana and contemporary hits at Tammerfest in Tampere. The July festival season concludes with the Workers’ Music Festival in Valkeakoski.
In addition, the exhibitions of Finlayson Art Area and the Mänttä Art Festival remain open throughout July.
Iron Age Birckala 4–5 July 2026
The historical event Iron Age Birckala draws inspiration from the Viking Age and Pirkkala’s own prehistoric past, particularly the archaeological discoveries made in the Tursiannotko area. Held in the Reippi area, this free, family-friendly event features demonstrations, workshops and live music for visitors of all ages.
At the heart of the event is a traditional crafts market where artisans sell handmade products created from natural materials. Viking-style market tents offer clothing, jewellery, ceramics and natural cosmetics, among other items.
On both festival days, visitors can watch the opening parade of the Birckala Warriors and historical re-enactors as they march from the Ancient Village to the main stage. The Ancient Village itself includes a turf-roofed cottage and a reed-roofed pit house, while younger visitors can enjoy guided children’s tours and interactive activity stations.
